Recently, the news about the merger between AMD and ATI stunned the world about how this is gonna affect the world on how AMD will be competing with Intel and offer full chipset products.

Well, not even before that news gets cold, here is another shocking news:

Philips reportedly finds buyer for semiconductor unit!

With Philips selling their semiconductor unit, big changes is gonna happen to the European semiconductor industry, and that change may propagate to other parts of the world in the future.

Since the buyer to the unit is an investment company, it is very likely the new owner of the unit will make some changes to it, and probably re-sell it later on to make a profit. These changes can include: downsizing, restructuring the corp., selling talented ppl in the research department to other companies, or even rotating the talented ppl within the unit for new inspiration in product development.

I am not an econ analyist, so I cant conclude whether this sellout is a good thing or not for the future industry. But one thing for sure, This move from Philips will bound to introduce more competition to the industry, and hopefully, this will fuel better technologies in the near future!
